Interlocking root maintenance is typically done every 10–12 weeks to maintain healthy, secure locs and a tighter, patterned loc finish. This technique uses an interlocking tool or crochet latch hook allowing the locs to be maintained at the root without unraveling when wet. Remember: the scalp is skin and needs to be washed, too. With proper hygienic practices, interlocking allows for little to no buildup. INCLUDES • Cleansing wash • Retie using no added product IMPORTANT: Because interlocking creates a unique loc pattern, it is not recommended to switch between interlocking and other maintenance methods.

Crochet root maintenance is typically done every 12–14 weeks (be able to easily stick your thumb through the new growth) to maintain a lived-in, mature loc finish. This technique uses a crochet hook needle with no added product, allowing the locs to be maintained at the root without unraveling when wet. Remember: the scalp is skin and needs to be washed, too. With proper hygienic practices, crochet maintenance allows for little to no buildup. INCLUDES • Cleansing wash • Root maintenance using no added product IMPORTANT: Crochet maintenance can be interchanged with comb retwist maintenance.

Comb retwist maintenance is typically done every 4–6 weeks to maintain a sleek, freshly groomed finish. At SimpleStyles by Mel, we use a comb with product to retwist, mold, and shape the locs. We do not use finger twisting for this service. Because this method can unravel when wet, it requires more frequent maintenance and does not provide the same washability between appointments as interlocking or crochet maintenance. Remember: the scalp is skin and needs to be washed, too. Product use can contribute to buildup and lint retention, which may limit proper hair and scalp cleanliness. Routine service pricing does not include additional care beyond the listed service and add-ons. If your appointment requires care beyond routine maintenance, please book The Works service. Examples include extensive repairs, loc marriage, more than 2 inches of new growth. If additional time is required beyond the standard timeframe and can be accommodated in the schedule, an additional hourly charge will apply.
